عمل port trunking بين شويتشات CISCO وHP

to create trunking between cisco and any other switch u will have to use

dorq1 encapsulation

i can guide u with the cisco configuration but i don't know about the HP switches

to create a trunk on an interface

configt#int f 0/0

config-if#switch port mode trunk

config-if#switch port encapsulation dot1q (vlan no)

ofcousrse it is better to configure sub interfaces on the main interface

thank you so much for your responce.., actually it has just worked with me this very morning :)

i have configured a static trunk on the HP ports using the command

trunk <ports list> <trunk name> trunk

and on the other side on the cisco switch, i had to move the ports out of the trunks and add them only to a channel group, when i tried them while in a trunk, a broadcast storm happened and had magor loopback :s

but it worked when i added them to the channel group only, strange but true ;)

it is very very strange that there is a broadcast storm in the default configuration i think that u made somthing wrong in the configuration

\and what u mean by channel group do u mean Vlan

however it is so nice that it ha worked

yes it is strange, but nothing can go wrong in the configuration, it is so stright forward :)

any way, i have to mention that after configuring ports as "trunks" i had another strange problem, and that is with the MSN, MSN is almost a formal mean of communication in my interprise, after applying Trunking, it kept signing people in and out like it went crazy, on all the network switches:S, does not make any sense how can a cnflict happen between the application layer and the datalink layer!!!

any way, i canged the configuration on the HP switch from Trunk To FEC and every thing is fine since then..!

port trunking is a method for connecting two network devices " Like switches" to each others with two or more uplinks, without the risk of having loop back faliures, this provides high uplink availability and link faliure back up, if one uplink fall, all traffice is automaticly transfired via the other links, it also provides traffic distribution over the links, this decreases traffic jams on the links.
