Purpose
You are a young consultant just graduated from the SVU and looking for a job. After several months you found the opportunity of your life: a consulting contract for Junior Network Consulting,. But before you get the job, you must prove yourself as worthy enough. So you have been given a delicate task as a test: The re-design of the corporate network of the AVC(Academic Virtual Center) in all of its aspects. For sure, you have no choice but to succeed, otherwise you'll not get the job (and most important: we may not allow you to graduate!!).
Description:
You are responsible for the setup of the central administration network. In The past everyone was complaining about the bad performance of the network and the lack of security in it. Each other day the finance administration computers get hacked and information are lost. Even the Public Relation manager is not safe, someone broke into his computer and took photos of him in swim suite and published them on the website of the AVC.
Requests
Part 1:
The current network is organized as follows: We have a four floors building, in which departments are distributed over one or more floors each. The following table shows the distribution of rooms in each floor. Each room contains 2 network ports.
Finance Student Affairs IT Planning Management Public Relation
1st floor 6 5
2nd floor 4 5
3rd floor 3 1 4 2
4th floor 3 3 1 4
Each floor is equipped with one 24 ports Fast Ethernet switch and 2 GbE ports. The Giga bit ports are used to connect switches following this rule:
1- A central switch is being put in the basement; it contains 24 GbE ports, with a switching capacity of 30 Gbps.
2- Each switch is connected with one GbE link to the central switch. The other GbE is used to link with one of the other switches. Each two switches are connected together: 1st floor with 2nd floor, and 3rd with 4th.
3- Rooms are distributed from the left of the table to the right (e.g : in the 1st floor, rooms 1-6 are for IT dept. and rooms 7-11 are for Management, in 4th floor, rooms 1-3 are for Finance dept., and rooms 4-6 are for Student Affairs dept etc.
Q1- Use a good graphical tool (e.g. Visio) to provide a well presented plan of the network. You need to draw the switches of each floor and their connections with each other and with the central switch.
Q2- Using the previously described rules and the diagram of Q1, display the spanning tree of the network if all links are working correctly.
Q3- What would happen if the link between the 3rd floor switch and the central switch is damaged? Display the resulting spanning tree on the diagram. Explain in details the different steps of the spanning tree algorithm.
Q4- Propose a division of the network into VLANs so each division has its own VLAN. Explain how the VLANs would span over several switches.
Part 2:
The AVC has five telecenters
A central one that we studied in part one is located in Kafarsouseh (HeadQuarter), other branches are located in Mazzeh, Latakia, Homs, and Hasakeh
All these branches are connected to each other via Leased lines using RIP as routing protocol.
Q1- Use a good graphical tool (e.g. Visio) to provide a well presented plan of the network.
Q2- Give the routing table for each all routers
Part 3:
The administrator of the AVC changed his routing strategy and replaced RIP routing protocol with OSPF
1- The Headquarter router receives the following LSAs:
Link Weight
Mazzeh→ HeadQuarter 2
Mazzeh→ Hasakeh 2
Link Weight
Latakia→ HeadQuarter 1
Latakia→ Hasakeh 3
Link Weight
Homs→ HeadQuarter 5
Link Weight
Hasakeh→ Mazzeh 2
Hasakeh→ Latakia 3
Q1- Draw the topology of the network
Q2- Give the forwarding table (shortest paths) for HeadQuarter Router.
2- Now the administration Council decided to open new branch in Tartous,
The Headquarter router has received these LSAs:
Link Weight
Latakia→ HeadQuarter 1
Latakia→ Hasakeh 3
Latakia→ Tartous 1
Link Weight
Homs→ HeadQuarter 5
Homs→ Tartous 1
Link Weight
Hasakeh→ Mazzeh 2
Hasakeh→ Latakia 3
Hasakeh→ Tartous 3
Link Weight
Tartous→ Latakia 1
Tartous→ Homs 1
Tartous→ Hasakeh 3
Q1- Draw the topology of the network
Q2- Give the forwarding table (shortest paths) for HeadQuarter Router.
